The Fun: The Seed

It was a summer afternoon in 2009 when Rasma and Almy were in front of their computer with their  music production tools. They were starting to understand the most of the mysteries hidden in these tools and to use them more confidently than before, when suddenly Rasma started to act so mischieviously and started to place notes in a piano roll of a sampler with a sound of a harp so that they finally sounded just like Tetris' Music Type A. Almy and Rasma just laughed at this, but what was just an excuse to make fun continued to be seriously developed. This development went on and on 'til it swiftly became quite a remix with its danceabe techno-style drums, its russian chords, its key signature (which still continues to be A minor), and a well-defined musical form.

However, the technological advance was becoming each time faster and faster, and having the chance to make even better music, their former version for Tetris song sounded so crappy. So, as they modernized their equiment for music, Rasma and Almy continued to make more upgrades for Tetris as well as for other of their songs like Midnight to Daylight or Pretty Lover. At the same time, they also investigated about the origin of this song. They found out that music type A from Tetris was a russian popular folk song called Korobeiniki which means "peddlers".

When the technological advance gave a clear direction to Rasma and Almy's music, they renamed as GENESIS. And so, what in the beginning was just an excuse to make fun grew stronger and better 'til it became what at AnimeRock 2010 we all met as

Tetris - Korobeiniki (GENESIS remix)
Here's the final result

GENESIS' First Inspiration

This was the first theme that Genesis chose to remix. This theme was very significant for many of the young people or their generation.

Tetris became such a well-known game specially for the Game Boy console. Rasma and Almy were part of numerous crowd that spent hours and hours just playing tetris in this modern and sofisticated console.

Music type A eventually became the most significant theme for this game. It was through tetris that this russian popular song formerly knowns as "Korobeiniki" became an anthem for gamers, among which Rasma and Almy were, too.

As time passed Rasma & Almy were learning how to play and make music. Inspired by this theme they felt tempted to play a prank and so their remix for Korobeiniki from Tetris was born.

In the next entry there will be more information about Genesis' prank and the enormous impact that it caused all around the world.
